| | | | | | | Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, incorporating a fascinating blend of diverse history with a rich combination of Latin American, Spanish and African cultures. Spotless white sandy beaches, coconut palm trees and an underwater world that is home to 500 species of fish and fifty different coral types surround this exciting island. Cuba and the surrounding islands have a sub tropical climate, which is influenced by balmy northeast trade winds perfect for any yacht charter.
Diving and Fishing : The coral reefs and cayos off the Cuban coast are among the most breathtaking snorkelling and diving destinations of the world. Whale Sharks can be seen off the Cuban coasts during Summer and also Marlins from May to September, as well as other game fish like Tarpons and Bone Fish.
Passport / Visa : US citizens must be licensed by the Department of Treasury in order to travel to Cuba, but travel to the country is strictly controlled and only select categories of travellers are able to obtain a licence. European Union citizens must have a valid passport. A visa is also required if the visitor does not have a Tourist Card. A Tourist Visa Card, costs around $25 and may be issued by travel agents or airlines for a single holiday trip of up to 30 days.
Provisioning : Fish, fresh fruits and vegetables can be obtained on the inhabited islands while on your cruise, but a full provisioning should be done in advance of departure. Please contact us for provisioning details, diving equipment rental, transfers etc at least 1 month prior to departure.
Sailing conditions : Even with GPS and chart plotters, the skipper's eye remains the most important navigational instrument. "Eyeball Navigation" is a must, most of all the correct recognition and interpretation of the colour shades of the water. An elevated position and polarizing sunglasses are very useful when sailing this "living" coast: coral and mangroves don't stick to navigational mapping and will have certainly developed on since the most recent survey.
South coast of Cuba : starting bases (from West to East) : There are two main island groups to explore during your yacht charter along the southern shore of Cuba, and two main bases to explore them from - Trinidad and Cienfuegos. The sailing areas from the two main bases incorporates the Canarreos Archipelago and the Juventud Islands to the west, or Jardines de la Reina Archipelago to the east, perfect playgrounds for yacht charters.
Yacht charter in Cienfuegos: One of Cuba's largest and most prospering cities, Cienfuegos on the main island has a commercial harbour with a tourist marina very close to the French-style centre. Filled with entertainment and eateries, the city is a hub of activity for shopping or just soaking up the Cuban culture. The city is dubbed the Pearl of the South.
Yacht charter in Trinidad : this base is 15 minutes from the colonial style city of Trinidad, located in the centre of the south coast of Cuba. Discover the best-preserved historical city of Cuba, restored to its 16th century apparel. Together with the nearby Valle de los Ingenios, it has been one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites since 1988. A must when in Cuba !
