Marina and bareboat bases (from north to south)
There are two main bases from where you can start or finish an unforgettable cruise : one in the North in San Pedro and one in the South in Placencia.
Ambergris Cays and San Pedro
Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize, and the most commercially developed. San Pedro, will always remain a popular port, as it offers many choices for provisioning and restaurants for dining. The most developed island in Belize, yet people love it for its simplistic approach to tourism.
.
Placencia
In the south of the country, Placencia is perfect for a one week round trip. Placencia is known for its incredible sixteen miles of natural sandy beach and a virgin mangrove-fringed lagoon. Close to the tropical forest and Guatemala, this little town offer all conveniences for a cruise organization.
Belize Airport
Belize International, more than two hours from 3 gateways in the United States
From Belize International, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye or Placencia are reachable by a 15 minute commuter plane, several connections a day
Climate
The yacht charter season in Belize is restricted by hurricane season, the best season in Belize is from November to May, which are the winter months of the Northern Hemisphere. The rainy season is from June to November. From mid-December to May, the cool trade winds blow. The rest of the year finds light winds and sporadic rainfall. Temperatures are always between 25-30º C (80;-90º F)
Yacht charter conditions in Belize
Bareboating ouside of the reef is not allowed :it's not as well charted, which makes it more dangerous everywhere coming in through unmarked "cuts" in the reef & once inside the atolls the shoal waters are full of coral rock formations that lie in so many areas in such numbers that the charts simply say "numerous coral heads or patch reefs". we highly recommend to have a local skipper aboard.
The 15-25 knot easterly trade winds of Belize's sailing grounds will take you to some of the most amazing places you can imagine. The brilliant turquoise waters inside one of the largest continuous barrier reefs create a pristine, protected cruising ground. The sailing is a breeze and there are hundreds of sandy cayes for anchoring all within the reef. The distance between anchorages is short and the shallow draft of the catamaran assures easy navigation.
Bareboat Exp. Level
From 1 - easy to 5 - very experienced = 5. Again, bareboating ouside of the reef is not allowed.
Airport
Philip Goldson International is situated 10 miles (16km) from Belize City. Connection to San Pedro and Placencia.
Dive Belize
Belize
is renowned for its excellent diving. For optimum safety and specific locations, we encourage you to dive with the local dive shops along the way. Most dives need to be booked a day ahead as all diving is weather dependent. Snorkelling equipment is provided on each yacht.
You do not need a license. Trolling while sailing is most popular, but you can also toss a line just about anywhere and catch a fish or two. Most people catch jacks and barracuda while trolling inside the reef, but you might also catch a small snapper while at anchor.
Local Language
English is the official language and is widely spoken, as is Spanish. Other languages include Creole, German, Mayan and Garifuna.
Currency
US Dollars are used. Major credit cards may be accepted in hotels, restaurants and some shops.
Provisionning and restaurant in Belize
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in San Pedro. You will find some during your cruise in Caye Caulker, St. Georges Caye, (you can try a fishermans meal at Ricardos Fish Camp on Bluefield Range), Tobacco Cayeand in South Water Caye. Placencia offers plenty of dining options ashore. Both bases offer provisionning services.
